Part of Oklahoma Catholic Radio's mission to evangelize is to continually connect with listeners through the radiothons, the annual luncheon, the website,
and even this column. These vehicles communicate, educate, and help us express our gratitude for your participation. Jesus showed us in His first miracle at the wedding feast of Cana, changing water into wine, that we are also called to celebrate and enjoy each other's company.
With a nod to that first miracle, OKCR has planned an evening to honor friendships and the shared values of Catholic men. On April 4th, Archbishop Coakley and the hosts of " The Catholic Man Show", Adam Minihan and David Niles will welcome guests to the Pastoral Center to join them for a good steak dinner, followed by a scotch tasting, paired with aromatic cigars.
Adam and David are the perfect duo to preside over this evening of food and fellowship. Their weekly program, "The Catholic Man Show", begins a review of a signature beverage "... typically a beer or a scotch," says Adam. They review the drink and enjoy it during the show. It is a unique garnish, but the compelling meat of the show is the discussion they conduct - with each other and their guests - on living out their Catholic manhood. Their focus is on how to live a virtuous life and what that looks like for a Catholic man. "Men need friendship and authentic friendship is only found with the foundation of Jesus Christ, " Adam adds.
By featuring a beer or whiskey, they also attract the attention of men who might not otherwise tune into a Catholic program. While Adam and David share their appreciation for a good drink with their audience, they are also modeling temperance: demonstrating manly hospitality, building relationships with important conversations without the aim to get drunk. Have no worries that the conversation will spiral so deep that the audience will lose interest. They are guys after all, and no show is complete without a spotlight on the "man gear" of the week ... and I don't think that includes a lemon zester.
Get to know Adam and David on April 4th in a relaxed atmosphere encouraging the contemplation of the curling smoke of a cigar along with a sip of a fine scotch. Savor the opportunity to celebrate authentic Catholic manhood. "Scotch and Cigars with Archbishop Coakley and The Catholic Man Show" begins at 5:30PM in the Pastoral Center.
